NACOB Lab Tours, Tuesday, August 5, 2008
The following University of Michigan biomechanics-related research laboratories will be open for NACOB participant tours on the Tuesday, August 5, 2008. Make sure you sign up for tours on the NACOB web site because space is limited. On Tuesday morning, certain labs (those with an asterisk) will be open for you to stop by and chat between 9:00 am or 11:00 am for up to one hour. You may also sign up for formal (1 hour) tours at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
How you get there: Nearly half the labs (#3-13, below) are within walking distance (5-10 minutes) from the NACOB registration desk at the League.
On Tuesday morning you can reach the labs on North Campus (#14-26) by getting on the free (blue) U-M Northbound Commuter bus (20 min. intervals) from the Central Campus bus stop at the junction of North University Street/Fletcher Street (look for the blue/yellow U-M bus stop sign) and getting off on North Campus at the FXB building on Beal Avenue. Return to Central Campus by getting on the U-M Southbound Commuter Bus at Cooley Lab or Pierpoint Commons blue/yellow bus stops and getting off at the Rackham Building bus stop on Fletcher Street on Central Campus. Alternatively, get on the free blue U-M Northwood bus (15 min. intervals) leaves Power Center (on Fletcher St) and get off at Pierpoint Commons on North Campus. Return to Central Campus by getting on the same Northwood bus at G.G. Brown (Beal Avenue), Cooley Building or Pierpoint Commons (Bonisteel Blvd) bus stops and getting off at Power Center bus stop on Central Campus. U-M bus arrival times and current locations are available in real time at http://mbus.pts.umich.edu/ and http://mbus.pts.umich.edu/arrivals/routeView.php , respectively.
On Tuesday afternoon you can visit any of the labs you signed up for on Central Campus by walking there, and on North Campus or Off Campus by taking a numbered minivan (when you sign up for the lab online, you will see the minivan number specified under 'Transportation') from the south entrance of the Michigan League at either 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm sharp. (You can also take the above buses in advance, if you want to explore campus). The same minivans will pick you up and return you to the south entrance to the Michigan League 2 hours later. The Off-campus labs are only reachable by numbered minivan.
