Weather
Summer is one of the most beautiful times of the year in Ann Arbor.
The usually bustling college town is quieter in early August with many of the undergraduates students gone. The average temperatures for late July and early August are in the range of 75-90 degrees Fahrenheit in the daytime, and around 70 degrees F at night. There can be sudden thunderstorms as weather fronts move through from the west. Be sure to be prepared for variability as the motto in Michigan is, “If you don’t like the weather in Michigan, just stick around…it will change real soon!” The tornado season is late spring and early summer, and so will have passed by the time of NACOB 2008. Ann Arbor is sheltered by the cooling effect of Lake Michigan so most tornados pass to the south. But just in case University buildings and hotels have tornado shelters in their basements and their staff are trained to help you find a shelter if need be. The City of Ann Arbor operates early warning sirens that give you plenty of time to find shelter.
